This weeks’ teaser is from Dragonmen 3: Mate Bond – It’s sort of short because I’m trying to make deadlines
A dragon scream pierced the air as they walked up.
“This way.” Nev grabbed his wrist and pulled Lian toward the sound of the dragons. Panic bubbled in Lian’s stomach, as the dragons grew larger the closer they came.
Dozens of the reptiles squatted on hot sands as far as his eyes could see. In the back of his mind he wondered if they were people or actual dragons. He’d heard that the men here could shift but he was skeptical until he actually saw one of them.
Entranced, Lian probably would’ve continued to stand there and stare if Nev hadn’t continued to propel him across the sands.
A blood-curdling scream carried across the sands.
Medic instincts taking over, Lian ran like lightning across the hot sands, freezing his body when the scene came clearer.
A man writhed on the ground. Hovering over him was a tremendous serpent.
“Damn he’s fucking huge.”
The dragon hissed and snapped at the screaming victim, its deep red scales shining malevolently in the bright sunlight.
Surrounding both man and dragon were a group of soldiers wearing black armor and face plates to protect against fire and long swords. It was clear from their positioning that they were trying to get the dragon to move away so they could rescue the man on the ground. The dragon whipped its serpentine neck back and forth, hissing its discontent. Small wisps of smoke wafted from its nose.
Anger surged through Lian, burning away any fear he might have of the enormous creature.
“Step back. Get the fuck away.” Lian screamed waving his hands.
The dragon jerked away from the injured man, its yellow eyes latching onto Lian.
The human stabbed me. Words whispered into his mind, dragging like a sibilant hiss.
“Well you beat the crap out of him. Consider yourself even.” Lian yelled back.
He must pay. With a wave of his tail, the dragon smacked half of the ring of knights away.
“He’s paid enough.” Lian replied evenly. The dragon was really close now. Its head lowered so he could make out the sword still embedded in the scaly flesh. “Hold still and I’ll remove the sword and heal your wound.” Surely that would put the great beast in a better mood.
Lian felt something press against his mind.
You may help me.
“Gee thanks.” Lian muttered. He didn’t bother to try to talk to the dragon again as he concentrated on pulling the sword out with the least amount of damage to the dragon.
Ouch.
The large creature jerked almost knocking Lian over. Catching himself, he placed a hand on the dragon’s hide and focused, pushing healing power into the enormous beast. The wound sealed flawlessly in seconds. There was a hiss in the air then a rich rumbling purr filled the air.
With his power Lian searched the wound, satisfied that it was completely healed. With a deep breath, Lian pulled back his powers and sank them back into his body.
Friend.
A forked tongue slid across Lian’s cheek in a lizardy kiss.
