Varick paced back and forth across Dio’s floor. Dio’s bedroom oozed luxury from his big velvet bedspread to his thickly piled carpet. Varick would rather be in a barren room with a cot if it included the vampire-demon. The little demons kept rushing into Dio’s room, hopping around, and nervously nibbling their tails when Varick explains what happened to their master.

“Master will return,” one blue naked demon after another assures him.

“When!” Varick can feel his teeth sharpen as the wolf inside tries to come out and bite the stupid creatures. Not one of them can tell Varick where Dio went and none of them are reassuring when he tries to pin them down.

The urge to shift and hunt the demons to burn off his frustration is huge.

Worry gnaws at him like a hungry beast as he paces.

How long would Dio be gone? Should he leave and return when Dio comes back? The thought of abandoning Dio’s house and having the man return to Varick’s absence didn’t feel right. In the short time he’d come to know Dio he’d grown fond of the beautiful man.

Varick let out a shout when Dio appeared out of nowhere and slammed onto the floor. Blood spurted from Dio’s face like a fountain. Panicked, Varick shouted for help.

A half dozen little demons poured into the room and hopped around Dio’s body biting their tails and jabbering all together.

Varick resisted the urge to drop kick the little bastards.

“Help him!” he growled.

Dio lay so still Varick worried there might be injuries he couldn’t see. Using his werewolf sense of smell he could only make out blood. A sudden gasp had the crowd of demons jumping back from Dio who sat up. The gaping wound slowly sealed before Varick’s eyes.

Varick fell to his knees beside Dio. When one of the demons stepped forward, Varick tossed the little creature over his shoulder ignoring the loud smack of the creature hitting the wall.

Dio’s eyes locked with Varick.

“Are you okay?” Varick asked. His fingers twitched with the need to touch the other man.

Flames flickered in the depths of Dio’s eyes as his check continued to heal.

“I’ll survive at least one more day.”

Before Varick could comment on that strange statement, Dio grabbed Varick by his shirt and yanked him closer.

The kiss burned Varick to his toes. If he hadn’t known Dio had demon blood before he would’ve from the heat coming from Dio’s body. No human put out that much heat.

“Where did you go?” Varick asked, pulling away slightly.

“I don’t want to talk about it.”

Before Varick could demand an answer Dio jumped at him.

“Oomph.” Dio’s wide smile soothed Varick’s wolf who didn’t appreciate being on the bottom.

“Gotcha!”

“Yes, you do,” Varick agreed.
