Amber invited me to share a party I might hold for one of my characters. The character I’ve chosen is Mason from The Good Wolf.
The book opens with a fancy dress Halloween party. A party that unfortunately doesn’t end well for many of the guests and Mason is bitten and becomes a werewolf. I imagine Mason wouldn’t be much of the party goer anymore, so if he was to have a party of any kind, it would be a little more intimate with only a handful of guests.
The Guest List:
Mason – the birthday boy
Niall – Mason’s boyfriend
Saskia – the girl next door and Mason’s friend
Michael – a young wolf and friend Mason is helping out.
It’s early evening and the guests are settled. Everybody has a drink in their hand and Saskia and Michael have been introduced. Saskia lived in the apartment opposite Mason when he lived in the city (in The Good Wolf) and Michael has been taken in by Mason in order to learn how to control his wolf nature (in The Bad Wolf). The evening starts with simple conversation. We catch up with Saskia and learn how she’s doing at school and progressing with her dream of becoming a doctor. Michael is sweet but shy. It takes the young wolf a while to come out of his shell, and when he does, the look of pride is clear on Mason’s face. And Mason and Niall look comfortable as they talk about their future and plans for their home. Despite the path to love being a difficult one, Mason and Niall made it and seem stronger and more in love than ever.
The party continues with a meal cooked by Niall, kind of. Mason would never say anything, but he’s seen the discarded cartons of the pre-made meals that are warming in the oven. The meal is rounded off with individual double chocolate muffins, each with their own candle. As a group, they all blow out a candle and make a wish. No one shares what they wish for, but the way Mason takes Niall’s hand in his, you know it’s to do with them sticking together
More drinks and Niall ushers everyone outside. The sun has set and the crescent moon has taken its place. As a final celebration and to call time on the evening, Niall sets off fireworks. He and Mason stand arm in arm and watch the display of white, yellow and purple, a shot of green exploding in an enormous pompom between them. Mason and Niall kiss as Saskia looks on, a big grin on her face as her two favourite guys share a romantic moment. And then to bed, Mason and Niall to their room, Michael to his, and Saskia to the spare. They all sleep easy that night.
From me: A book on meditation techniques – Mason has come a long way but still needs to learn to relax more and how to connect with his wolf.
From Niall: a wooden photo frame, handmade and an image of a wolf carved into the frame.
From Saskia: A dog collar and a chew toy – she knows how to make Mason smile.
From Michael: A dead rabbit – nothing says thanks more than the mutilated corpse of a small animal.
Mason, Niall, and Saskia are characters from The Good Wolf.
Ten years ago, Mason fell for his best friend while at university. Little did he know just two years later, that same friend would turn his world upside down in a way Mason could never have imagined. Now, he lives a cursed life. Living in solitude, Mason does everything he can to keep people away, not only for his safety, but for theirs too.
The night of the full moon. Niall has no idea he’s a werewolf, but fate brings him and Mason together. A trick of the moon or something deeper, the men are drawn to each other. Together they must find a way to deal with what has happened to them both. But first Mason must learn to trust Niall and realize being alone is not always for the best.
