Welcome Birthday Guest Meredith Russell!

Hello! Happy Birthday Month, Amber Kell.

I’m here to share my memories of a special birthday with you all. For me it would be my 29th birthday. A strange number, right? It was the day my then-boyfriend now-husband proposed to me. He’d booked a couple of nights in the Rotunda in Birmingham (not the most exciting getaway I’d thought at the time as it’s close to home). At night we sat down with his laptop and he’d made me this little video of pictures of us across the ten years we’d been together set to Taylor Swift’s Love Story. At the lyric ‘Marry me, Juliet’ the music cut, and he paused the video and proposed, giving me a little scroll inviting me to a day out in the Jewellery Quarter to go pick out a ring. A bit late for spoiler warnings but I said yes!

I feel lucky to have such a wonderful birthday memory.

Competition: Win a $10 Amazon Gift card.

Darcy and Kaden, Books 1 & 2 in the Boyfriend for Hire series use the ‘pretend boyfriend’ trope and were lots of fun to write. For a chance to win, leave a comment about your favourite story trope/theme to read. Competition closes at the end of the month.

Meredith Russell is an author, cover artist and vampire slayer. Okay, she may have made that last one up, but that’s what she loves about writing—the possibilities. No matter where her stories are set—from fantastical worlds of zombies and werewolves to the ambling life of an English village—she strives to write about romance and the tales of men searching for their happy ever after. Meredith writes the stories she loves to read—complex, emotional, a journey, and sometimes unexpected.

  1. Your husband is obviously very romantic, such a clever proposal and a great birthday memory. No wonder you said yes.
n.b. not entering as I have the books waiting to be read.

  2. That’s a wonderful memory to have! I love paranormal stories and enjoy a good marriage of convenience story on occasion. 🙂

  3. It’s hard to choose a genre that is my favourite as I like them all but if push came to shove I guess I will go with paranormal

  4. I love paranormal and fantasy stories. I love the friends to lovers trope or Gay for you trope.

  5. You are very lucky to have a man like that and when they are that nice young they age to fantastic. Lucky girl.

  6. There aren’t many tropes that I don’t like, but my top ones are friends to lovers, GFY and forced proximity.

  7. My all time fav trope is fantasy enemies to lovers. Love when it’s between prince/king and a warrior.

  8. Thank you for sharing a great birthday story. I love age gap, best friend’s brother (or father), and friends to lovers

  9. Lovely birthday memory. So many tropes, so hard to choose. Gay for you, sassy heroine, and any paranormal are some of my faves.
